Fox Glacier

29 October, 2009

One of the highlights of the South Island's West Coast, this great tongue of ice is fed by four alpine glaciers, falling 2600m as it travels 13km from the Southern Alps to the coast. The Fox Glacier carves through temperate rainforest, slanting down from the Southern Alps, just north of New Zealand's two highest peaks, Cook and Tasman.

Fox Glacier is the lowest and most accessible of the well-known New Zealand glaciers, stopping a short walk from the magnificent west coast shoreline.

There are opportunities for visitors to experience the awe and magnitude of nature's creation by either a guided walk or Heli-Hike. Visitors are not permitted to walk the glacier without a guide.
